Jealousy | A human emotion

Jealousy | A human emotion

Jealousy can change you

“Your jealousy is not an idea!” Lama Yeshe

Jealousy is defined as a feeling of unhappiness and anger because someone has something or someone that you want.

We all experience it from time to time, when we’re faced with objects of desire that seem out of reach.

Its first sprouts present themselves in infancy so one could say that it is a natural human tendency.

Once the boundary is made between me and others, what’s mine and theirs become the ground for it to grow. Continue reading “Jealousy | A human emotion”

Ignorance | Lacking the wisdom to know better

“The ignorance that influences the way we behave and engage with the world is active.” B. Alan Wallace, The Dalai Lama

Ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge or awareness and wisdom is said to be its remedy.

We readily concede our lack of familiarity in certain subjects and fast to admit we can’t know it all.

But when it comes to everyday issues, we get caught up in events and usually act without thinking.

And the problem is that most of our decision making is based on rooted beliefs we’re barely aware of.

The senses | Gateways to the outside world

The senses | Gateways to the outside world

The senses are deceptive in nature

“The senses are gateways to the intelligence. There is nothing in the intelligence which did not first pass through the senses.” Aristotle

The senses direct the mind, guide our choices and ultimately drive our actions, we depend on them.

Reality, as we know it, is the result of coming into contact with our eyes, ears, skin, tongue and nose.

The objects we perceive must go through the sense doors before they can be translated into something. Continue reading “The senses | Gateways to the outside world”

Impermanence | the evanescence of all things

Impermanence | the evanescence of all things

Impermanence ~ nature in motion

Impermance

Impermanence has its stamp on everything whether it’s manmade or a product of nature itself.

We might not be aware of it but nothing lasts because all is in a constant flux of transformation.

In fact, this stands true for all that we encounter outside ourselves as well as the things we hold at heart.

Take a minute and look around you, can you spot the worn out from the new? Do you see the difference? Continue reading “Impermanence | the evanescence of all things”

Uncertainty | Travelling the seas of uncertainty

Uncertainty | Travelling the seas of uncertainty

Uncertainty is everywhere you go

“We can try to control the uncontrollable by looking for security and predictability, always hoping to be comfortable and safe. But the truth is that we can never avoid uncertainty.” Pema Chodron

We all seek a sense of security, we labor to achieve that state where we can finally sit and relax.

To enjoy the fruit of our efforts we plan, we give it our best, we invest in the dream.

We spend energy working to secure that job, to buy that home, to get that ‘picture perfect life’.

At times it seems we’re on course, we’re sure we know where we’re going, then a storm hits and we’re lost. Continue reading “Uncertainty | Travelling the seas of uncertainty”

Gentleness | Make soft your way of life

Gentleness | Make soft your way of life

Gentleness as a way of being

“Kindness, gentleness, warmth and compassion are like basic vitamins for our minds.” Paul Gilbert

Gentleness is said to be a quality, one that expresses itself in kindness and in the softness of our actions.

It is about who you are in the most difficult situations, in the way you respond by yielding first.

Being gentle does not make you soft, rather it makes you more pliable to people and life’s events.

It shows that you have reached a certain level of understanding, it is the mark of a mature mind. Continue reading “Gentleness | Make soft your way of life”

Conflicting emotions of pride

“The nature of emotional pride is such that you go around with your nose in the air.Lama Yeshe, Nicholas Ribush

People tend to react differently when the issue of pride comes up, some shy away from it while others commend it.

The very mention of pride seems to trigger a reaction in the body; We often change posture unconsciously.

Our bodily response does not read the same, it may conceal our discomfort with the subject or point to the contrary.

More often than not we’re met with mix emotions when it comes to pride, maybe because it means different things. Continue reading “Pride | The dynamics of pride”

Simplicity | Treasure what counts

Simplicity | Treasure what counts

Invite simplicity back in your life

“In twentieth-century society, the appreciation of simplicity has almost been lost.” Chogyam Trungpa, Carolyn Rose Gimian

The jigsaw puzzle that makes up our life holds millions of parts in constant movement and transformation.

Complicated as it is, we tend to add-on, as a result we spend our energy trying to amass or hold on.

Our environment both outside and inside ourselves is so cramped with stuff we can hardly size it up.

The complexity we’re faced with may at times feel as if the walls are closing-in on us, leaving us empty. Continue reading “Simplicity | Treasure what counts”

Sickness and health | adopting the right approach

Sickness and health | adopting the right approach

In sickness and health |mind training dealing with pain

Sickness and health is one of our main concern, it is present intermittently alongside day to day worries.

Being healthy is regarded as condition for happiness, surely securing our livelihood is dependent on it.

Unfortunately when things go awry, we fail to adopt the right approach and easily become the victim of worry.

We do not want to suffer, that’s a fact we all agree on, but when it comes to our dealing with it we fall short.

We tend to fixate on our health issues, especially when our bodies show signs of weakness, but does it help? Continue reading “Sickness and health | adopting the right approach”

The need to be seen | So I know I am

The need to be seen | a concern in need of attention

“Our deepest need is to be seen”. Marianne Williamson

The need to be seen is universal, it shows up on dates, at our place of work, friends and family gatherings.

We devote the better part of our time thinking about or doing what we can so that people appreciate us.

So why do we care so much? Because how people react to us and behave around us carries weight. Continue reading “The need to be seen | So I know I am”
